As the big ‘G’ is getting stronger and larger everybody around is obsessed with their search marketing results, but obvious the tons of SEO techniques are available all over the web. It is recommended to not ‘over optimize’ your site to avoid getting banned from the Google index.
Hereby I am posting few most common reasons causing the Google penalty or temporary ban. If you note them well and steer clear of over optimization, you will be doing good.
Link Farming
Link Farms or Free-for-all (FFA) sites exist for the sole reason of helping the websites to gain large number of backlinks. These link sources are disapproved by the popular search engines. So make sure that you don’t involve in link farms. You should also avoid spamming forums, guest books or comments with your links!
Cloaking
This is probably the only reason Google promises to ban a site for. Cloaking involves building a specific page excessively filled with keywords only for the search engines and another page which will be shown to the users. It can be done by CGI script which reads the IP address of the requestor (whether human or search engine) and accordingly can serve different contents. Keep away from it.
Doorway Pages
Doorway (or gateway) pages are normally the small pages, packed full of keywords and having links to targeted websites to get high rankings and traffic. They look awful and a site using them excessively is supposed to be penalized. Remember, people use Google for searching and it will not like someone dumping it’s index with a trash.
Excessive Cross-Linking
Some webmasters own multiple sites, very much with monovular or similar content. Thereafter they heavily link those sites together with the intention of getting high PR. But there are several examples of Google penalizing such networks in ranking. If you have various websites, internal linking is not a crime provided not overrunning the moderate level.
Email Spam
Do not ever try to spam. By sending a large amount of unsolicited mail through the server your domain is hosted on, will make you deserve to be banned though the legitimacy of mass mailing is still a gray area.
Indexing multiple URL’s for the same page
If you submit domain.com and also domain.com/index.html to the Google database, it will more look like you are trying to get multiple search results for the same page. So submit your home page once only (If you really don’t want to wait for Google to discover your new site).
Duplicate content
Develop unique and relevant content. If you use a duplicate content on your site, Google may find similar pages and more likely exclude your page from its index keeping original trusted page.
Bad domain history
Try and avoid the use of domains with bad history. Always inquire before using any old domain for your website that whether it is previously black listed. Also if the domain you want to acquire is currently a viable site but back in yesteryears was an adult site then you should pass it for obvious reasons.
Excessive Outbound Links
As everybody around is obsessed with Pagerank thing and aggressively trying to build backlinks, in attempt of reciprocal link building methods (I scratch your back, you scratch mine) link pages are fuller than ever. You should try to avoid placing too many outbound links on a single page. If you have 100 or such outbound links, distribute them on separate pages.
Thus do not violate any of the Google’s terms of service or do not try to use Google except its original purpose, and then you are 100% ban proof.
